March 30th will be an afternoon of community celebration as poets, listeners, readers, and lovers of salmon gather to share
their voices. Harold Rhenisch will be reading from his latest poetry collection, “The Salmon Shanties” and sharing his

experience about the land and history of Cascadia – the region of North America that includes much of the Pacific Northwest.

Rhenisch describes the event as:

“…a performance uniting voices of poets, salmon and people who have been weaving
Cascadia together since our islands and mountains rose from the sea. For fifteen years, I
travelled throughout Cascadia, following salmon up their rivers and setting settler history
aside to speak stories of land, salmon, water and the people who care for them.
To celebrate my book, The Salmon Shanties”, we are gathering readers, listeners, lovers
of salmon and poets, to come together and bring their voices to the conversation. The
book stands mid-stream in a river. We are all the river. We will read poems together, and
unite our voices into a performance that lasts the afternoon and hopefully for years

more.”

Harold will be joined by poets Stephan Torre, Leanne Boschman, Carla Stein, Ken Cathers, and Kim Goldberg.
Community voices will be interwoven throughout the event creating a unified composition of rhythm and language.

Bring your ears, your voice, and share your own love of our region at the mic.
