Biography
Canadian Couture fashion designer Teresa Lindsay launched her first collection on the International Runway at the S/S16 VFW (Vancouver Fashion Week) on September 30th 2015 in the Emerging Designers showcase. Lindsay’s stunning collection, titled GEOSIREN, was created from her personal challenge to assemble high end luxury lifestyle wear with as few cuts as possible—what she terms as GEOFASHION.
Lindsay’s eco-conscious goal is to reduce as much waste as possible. All threads and remnants are collected, shredded and added to pillows. During the GEOFASHION production process, the strategic cutting allows her work to embody the elegance of the natural drape and nap of various fabrics. Ease of dressing, including her clients with mobility issues, her Shi Dresses, belted gown skirts, gorgeous wraps/capes, geo tops and original pieces that are one-of-a-kinds.
Hosting private fashion shows for clients and guests, she demonstrates how she is uninhibited by raw edges and technically challenging fabrics; she explores silk chiffon-sewn edges with tissue paper, incorporates stainless steel wire and rods to hold shapes, organic cotton bamboo in gowns, and uses reclaimed notions or leather and organic fibres, all in ways that subtly define the outfits.
Lindsay is excited to take her work to public market furthering her exposure to distinguished collectors. Her goal is to translate fashion with her unique sizing system by carrying only three sizes, each of which are created to specifically highlight the shape of the female body.
In 2000, she launched Tribute Trousers, a line of custom fit pants for women that are finished to the shape of each customer. The spectrum she fits are the traditional 2-22, however signing off on the finished piece she address it to the customer by their name rather than size. “We are not a number,” she states in her personalized message in video she released on Youtube. Tuxedo - The most popular and versatile pant in the collection is created to give you every freedom – the perfect fitting pant! The slimming side panel allows everyone to look taller. The buttoned-front waste line is extended past the middle to look smooth with shirts tucked-in or worn over top. The fabric is a blend of durability and flexibility. Sourcing for this fabric took over a year to find in Canada – 65% polyester, 30% cotton and 5% spandex allows your skin to breath even in the trickiest of yoga poses.
With challenging leasing in Victoria with retail space post COVID, in 2022, she ventured into local markets. In 2023, Teresa’s love of world travel inspired her to create a practical, convenient solution to protecting her credit cards using a high quality, fabric wrist wallet design.
2024 brought to life her vision of accessibility through a mobile atelier; her “space to create” - a room/studio on wheels. Her studio includes a wheelchair lift, sewing machine and roll-in, roll-out racks of garments finished and in the cutting stage. Clients can see her inaction, she can do demonstrations at schools, and gain some reprieve from always being based in her home.
In addition to being a recognized local fashion designer, Teresa Lindsay is an artist and painter; since she was a teenager. She has worked in mixed media acrylic, some oil, some pastel ink, and from this experience, she went onto manual graphic arts in college to becoming a fashion consultant, business stylist, public speaker, marketing consultant, and finally a global business developer.
Teresa unveiled her first collection of paintings publicly in March 2024 titled “Rooted.” It is a series of arbutus trees in ink and acrylic and a whole coloured collection of bright acrylic story telling paintings. The artist explains this is a reflection of how no matter what storms life brings, we are always rooted by who we truly are.
